My son was recently offered a full Honors OOS scholarship to Pitt. We had originally ruled the school out, but now we are considering again.

Would like some insight on:
- How is the honors program?
- Is there grade deflation in engineering dept?
- How is the availability of internships?
- Does the campus feel like a part of the city or do you have college feel?

We are planning a trip next week before the May 1st deadline to visit.

Would appreciate any replies.

I would definitely contact UHC and arrange to meet with them while you’re there. We went to the honors admitted day last Friday and they covered a lot of ground and both professors and students were available to talk with. So you should also see if you can talk to some students who use UHC. As you probably know, students eligible for honors can use those resources not at all, some (such as a class or two), or fully (B.Phil degree).

As for campus, it feels like a hybrid to me, probably more campusy but well integrated into the city neighborhood of Oakland. Also, CMU and Schenley park are adjacent to Pitt so they extend that campus feel a bit. There is an upper campus north of Fifth Ave. mostly for medical and athletics that you can check out too.

Don’t know where you’re from or your other options but remember that Pittsburgh gets decent snowfall and is somewhat cloudier than most US cities. For some, that makes an impact. Good luck!
