Finally got transcripts today...and I'm confused?

Okay as a bit of backstory I’ve always gotten a pretty solid mix of As & A-s. So I’m basically assuming my weight GPA is going to be about a ~3.85 right? I go to the best academic high school in my state (besides the Governor’s School) and have a decent rank (top 10%) so I’m like this is fine, everything is looking good. Except it’s not.

Parchment sends out GPAs. Weighted: 4.673 Unweighted: 3.77.

Am I missing something? 18 As 8 A-s 1 B+ That should be a 3.89 right? I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter all that much as GPA is kinda relative to your school and peers but I’m still bewildered at these calculations.

Maybe you are counting non-core courses and your school doesn’t? Like, your A in underwater basketweaving or chorale or acting doesn’t count?

Our kid’s school and D2’s college gave an A- 3.67 (not 3.7), if that changes the calculation. Also, are all courses for the same number of credits?

@Gatormama Well then it would become 13 As 5 A-s & 1 B+ but that still would be around the same value.

@intparent That would change it from 3.89 to 3.87 but would not quite be a 0.1 point drop. And yes, besides 2 courses which were 1 semester (I made a 92 for 0.5 credits in them both so I just calculated it as a single 92) all of these classes are worth 1 credit.

Different high schools calculate GPA’s in wildly different ways. Universities are going to see 18 A’s, 8 A-'s, and only a single B+. You are going to do very well.

@DadTwoGirls Thanks for the encouragement. Normally this kinda thing wouldn’t bother me but I guess the stress is just getting to me.
