Finally Heard...

Rejected from all 4...which totally sucks because I was striving for CMU and wanted it soooooooo bad. I would even have been happy if I was waitlisted. Now, I don't even want to go anywhere. I just want to take the year off and see where things go, but then I can't get on my parents' insurance and I am under medical care right now so that won't be good. So now my choices are Rose-Hulman, Allegheny, Penn State Beaver, Pitt-Main campus, and I was waitlisted at Univ of Rochester. I still am sort of interested in Univ of Rochester though and partially Allegheny since they pretty much gave me a full ride. Eh I don't really know. I was just set on CMU for like 8 years, and now the time finally comes and I get rejected. Wow, it does hurt. I even sent them 2 extra teacher recs, 2 additional essays, 1 resume, and millions of updates on my status, after I was rejected ED for CIT, but I guess that wasn't enough. It's probably the time to be like, "the hell with them, if they don't want you, then you don't need them" like my mom would say. Oh well...Life moves on. Congrats to everyone who made it.

But question, is there any way to find out why you were rejected to try and appeal it maybe?

Fortunately though, this did not hurt as much as it did the first time, but it still feels crappy.

Yes they will tell you why they rejected you and there is an appeals process. You can also ask about transferring from other colleges (for example taking a semester at Rose-Hulman and maybe retaking your SATs).

If the appeal process does not work, I think a transfer during freshman year would probably be your best bet.

Ok so how do I do this whole appeals process? Do I e-mail them, fax them, ect? Who should I try talking to?

I would call the main admissions office (still open over here at 4pm) and ask them about it. You probably have to get through the barrier of phone ladies but eventually they should direct you to the right person or the right information.

Good luck.

Thanks so much!

Um, so today I decided to log on AIM and join the CMU chatroom. And I was just chilling with the people and talking about the colleges. So the MVCs were there and I decided to ask how the appeals process was and apparently there is no appeals process.

What's up?

What is the CMU chatroom?

sign into your aim account. add Carnegie MVC one. and ask to be invited to chat room. It;s open from 5 to 8PM sun to thur. eastern time.you can ask questions to two current students

courtney1121,

I'm so sorry to hear about your bad news. I know exactly how you feel (I was rejected from 4 of my 5 top choices in a row and was waitlisted at my remaining top choice.) I'm sure once you start reading about all the awesome things about your other wonderful options, you'll definitely start to feel better. Keep your head up!

So I just called them, and spoke to a Melissa. I asked her if I could have a reason to why I was not offered admission, and she told me that the counselors are in a "blackout period" right now, and they'll be able to answer questions next week. Sounds like BS but whatever.

Hopefully I'll end up at Univ of Rocheser anyways, but why not go through all the trouble just for the hell of it. :)

I agree that finding out why you were rejected would be helpful, so you could try to improve whatever needs improvement. Also, it might give you a sense of closure. I know I'd like to know why I was rejected/waitlisted at some of my colleges (not that it matters now) just out of curiosity.

I don't know about any appeals process (I think it's rather unusual for universities to even have one) but if there is one, good luck with it.

Thank You! :)
