Finally

We just got a ton of snow where I live. Almost a foot. Virginia is looking better and better!

just had my jeff scholars interview! i think it went well…surprisingly

I live in NJ and got 1.5 feet of snow and there is another blizzard coming on Tue/Wed so UVA is like the promise land…81 more days!

Yea, I keep hearing about that blizzard. We could get the divine 2 days off.

We got a sprinkle of snow this morning, but I wasn’t expecting it.

There were like 2 or 3 blizzards that hit Central VA last year…UVA had like 2’ of snow from one storm! So it can happen anywhere!

This UVA is like a disease lol. I honestly can’t get it off of my mind. April 1st can’t come soon enough.

I honestly can’t wait till Jan 22 passes. Will be done with the entire college process and can live again. Back to going to the gym every day and working on my basketball skills :D.

Thus far, I’ve compiled 3 pages on Microsoft Word of strange songs that I usually would forget or not listen to. I honestly am cycling through songs finding a new one everyday that is just great.

Yeah but that snow last year in Virginia was EXTREMELY rare…never has it snowed that much. Normally if we get snow its no more than about 5’’ or a light sprinkle but that blizzard was so unexpected. I liked it though because we got out for almost 3 weeks. :)

Yea, I just got back from basketball. I just recognized, while driving there, that we have a ton of snow here. I mean 2 big storms in a matter of 2 weeks is pretty radical for NY.

i just found out that someone from my school who is also applying to UVA, applied for the Jefferson’s Scholarship and received an invitation for an interview. I am happy for them, but am curious about my application. I am OOS and I wanted to know if they would directly compare our applications? Is it likely that they would take her as well as myself?

They don’t compare. In fact, they don’t even know who else applied from your region while they are reading your application.

I didn’t think you could apply for that, I thought you had to be nominated…(?)

simone, just an FYI, a student cannot apply for the Jefferson they are nominated by their school.

Also, wofbharatj post is right-they don’t compare. They read holistically and go by each application individually. You may or may not even have the same reader(s).

Wahoogrl08, some schools nominate based on application. Some schools just nominate the valedictorian, it depends. UVA tends to pick scholars who will definitely attend if they receive the scholarship. Accordingly, highs schools sometimes make an application for students who have UVA as their top choice, and then they nominate the most qualified student of the applicants.

But I am not entirely sure if someone can actually apply for it, even though the person’s high school has chosen a different nominee.

Ohh how I wish UVA still had ED…

Those who go through the entire Jefferson Scholarship process, which includes a weekend in Charlottesville, tend to be interested. I don’t think the committee needs to weigh that factor too, too much.

Some students aren’t totally set on UVa and the scholarship helps them decide, as any scholarship would for students with multiple great offers of admission.

Especially if the scholarship is given for a great school. Its like getting an Ice Cream Sundae but then getting a load of Hot Fudge on top for free. You’ve got that extra little bonus.

Per wofbharatj:
“UVA tends to pick scholars who will definitely attend if they receive the scholarship.”

This is not accurate. Many students who are chosen as Jefferson scholars are also accepted to other high-level schools. The committee hopes that students will indeed choose UVa, most do accept this wonderful honor, however some do not.

Per wofbharatj:
But I am not entirely sure if someone can actually apply for it, even though the person’s high school has chosen a different nominee.

You cannot apply for the Jefferson, only the person your HS nominates can be a part of the process. Or if your school is not a part of the Jefferson list of high schools then there are other avenues.

Almost forgot
