So...I'm pretty sure all of you guys are currently taking finals. How'd you all do?

BTW is a C+ GPA in 1st semester of freshman year college normal? Please tell me it is.

I'm trying really hard to get good grades to transfer to USC for junior year so I can't really slack off.

BTW I think midterms and finals are really stupid. It doesn't help a student learn. It teaches you how to cram information into your head and keep it for 3 days.

Multiple choice questions doesn't tell you a student paid attention in your class.

I try to do really good on all my other tests so I don't have to study my brains out for finals, worked out really good this semester. C+ GPA I'd say is normal depending on the workload etc. I hated frehman classes, stupid writing intensive history and philosophy.

Had no finals. Tomorrow is the beginning of finals week, but I just had one presentation, one take home test, an essay and a research paper, all of which I'm done with. No studying or cramming for me.

I had a C plus average for my freshman year. It takes a little while to get accustomed to college life. Don't worry. It happens to alot of people. I am a junior now and have almost all A's since then. It is just a matter of learning to prioritize and mature a bit. Freshman year, the focus is on adapting, making friends. After that, you come to school with your circle of friends intact, and knowing exactly what to expect. This makes it much easier to focus on your classes. Lots of people have a rough freshman year. It really won't hurt you. Just pick it up from here.

About finals, I have had one of my three so far. It was a philosophy exam and I am sure I got some level of an A on it. Professor gave us a list of 120 vocab and concepts, told us he would pick 5 that we would need to ID on the test. We also got a list of 20 essays, told we would need to answer 3. Thinking out and memorizing 20 full essays took me weeks but I managed to remember a solid response to all. Stats tomorrow, and marketing Wednesday. Then it is home sweet home for a month!

If you're trying to transfer to USC then a C+ average probably won't cut it, so you should wait at least another 3 semesters before applying assuming that you bump your grades up.

I know it sounds weird, but finals and midterms are the way colleges determine which students have been working hard during the semester and which students haven't, plain and simple.

I just got my GPA for first quarter - 3.16.
I get that it's not horrible, but it's not as good as I would like. I'm going to work harder next term. I think now that I have more of a rhythm and am not getting used to a whole new environment I should be more successful... I hope.

I agree that that cramming isn't very helpful in the long run, but that's really more your fault than it is the tests'. You know for weeks/months that the test is coming, so if you choose to cram, then, well...that's that. No one's forcing you to do it that way, even if your personal schedule makes it difficult to do otherwise.

I just ed up my econ final. Last question, didn't distinguish between reserves from deposits and required reserves, my whole *ing balance sheets went off and the whole ***ing question is worth 20 marks.

I've got a calc 1 final tmr morning and I'm so down with myself right now I'm not sure how I'm going to do well in that either.

I'm not looking for self pity, but it's so ****ed up when it's one question which brings the whole damn stage down.

Yea I do know for weeks when the final is coming. But it's hard to study when there are constantly projects and papers due. You can't review things, but rather study for the quiz that's to be taken the next day. I'm constantly working on something or studying. Not to mention the teacher never reviews but keeps feeding us new information.
I guess the one thing I could do to have more study time is to not party during the weekends...but that's NEVER gonna happen LOL.

Honestly..if you only learn stuff for the finals (i.e., cram), you're only hurting yourself, so...frankly, nobody cares.
It's just a relatively practical way for colleges to find out how well you learned the material for the semester

i got really bad grades first semester of college. i think a lot of it has to do with adjusting to a new environment, friends, and school life. Theres no homework for college, its a different type of schooling, and that takes getting used to. on top of that, youre probably partying a lot more than you did in high school, its completely normal to not do that well freshman year. i just finished finals today, i was definitely intense, but im glad to be done.

mr. mack, congrats on finishing your first semester of college, though!
I'm sure next semester will be a lot better academically. the first can be tough because of all the adjustments you're making!

It's looking like a lock on that 3.4 I was talking about. Unless some miracle happens and I did miraculously well on my expository writing class.

Yesterday was my last day, but I have never felt so humiliated by an exam before. I almost passed out yesterday too, and pretty much forgot everything I need to know for the other final in the afternoon. Looks like my gpa is going down for another 0.03 points. haha.

And I feel bad right now because I SUDDENLY know how to do a problem.
