Finalst - What is the next step?

How many of the 15,000 finalists will receive the 2,500 award from NMSC?

When is this decided?

iceberg…According to NMSC’s website and pamphlets, they award 2500 of the $2500 scholarships, and they’re distributed amongst the states in the same ratio as the number of semifinalist designees. Announcements for these scholarships should be sent out in late March. Corporate sponsored scholarship awards get sent out first (early to mid March), followed by the $2500 scholarships (late March), and finally the college sponsored awards in late April. D1 would happily take a $2500 award, but would be better off with a university sponsored award ($1K per year for 4 years). We’re keeping our fingers crossed and we’ll see how it plays out. Good Luck!!

Wolverine: could D1 possibly receive both kinds of scholarships – meaning the NMSC $2500 the first year, with the university supplying 1k for the next 3 years?

audellmom…I don’t believe so, at least not the way things are written in the Finalist letters. I could’ve sworn I read postings from previous years where students had to choose between 2 NMSC scholarship offers (I knew you could only “accept” one) but according to the Finalist letters this year you will only be “offered” one scholarship from NMSC. Unless the university is somehow willing to make it a university only scholarship offer (instead of a university sponsored NMSC official scholarship) I don’t think it’s possible or allowed.
