Finance career --> Non "econ" major??

Looking for some solid advice please...

Like almost EVERYONE else here... I am thinking about investment banking or consulting later down the road. If not, then public accounting or finance positions at hi tech companies.

Originally, I was planning to be an economics major. I love some aspects of economics, but I don't think the econ major is for me, since I do find many classes to be dry and too theoretical. But it's definitely "do able", since I know PLENTY of people who major in econ as a "default major", since they don't know what else to major in.

On the other hand, I could major in a somewhat obscure major called "Science, Technology, and Society", which is an interesting major (like the title: combines sciences, some form of engineering, and sociology type classes) that I can design myself, plus there are smaller classes, and would perhaps be even less stressful.

I've talked to a few recruiters from i-banking and consulting firms, and they say they "love economics majors", but is that really the case?

If I 100% want to pursue a career in financial services of some form WILL I SIMPLY BE BETTER OFF WITH THAT ECONOMICS MAJOR?

econ and finance is pretty much the same thing except for like 3 classes * i think*

it depends on what school you go to also.

if you're at an ivy league school or top school such as stanford or duke, you could just major in whatever you want. it'll just be harder for a 'science, technology, and society' major to land an interview and job if you're comin from a lesser known, non-target school.
