Does anyone know what the best finance class for an engineer is? I want to learn about the financial markets, ie. stocks, currencies, derivatives, hedging etc. I looked in the catalog and E120 seems to be the closest thing. Does anyone know anything about the UGBA versions and how they compare instead?

In just one class?

Maybe Econ 136?
I’ve never taken the course, but I’ve read the textbook (Investments by bodie, kane) and it was much more in depth than what was covered in the UGBA 103 lectures. From experience, 103 hits the main points in vanilla finance (time value of money, modern portfolio theory, capital budgeting, and intro to options.

but idk, I never really read the 103 text book. may have had the exact same stuff as the 136 textbook, but we just never were planning on getting around to it. *shrugs.

kind of hesitant about E120 after looking at a rather old final exam: iie.berkeley.edu/exams/E120/S01/Final_Solutions.pdf

maybe others can be a bit more insightful, i would put a vote down for 136
