Finance, Enviromental, Other?

Hello all, my name is Retro, and I came here today with a few questions for you. I’ve decided I want to pursue a law degree, a J.D (yay me!) but I have not been able to decide what undergraduate to pursue. I would not mind doing criminal, environmental, or financial based law, but I do not know what kind of major to pursue. I’m very good and interested in historic preservation (I live in Charleston, SC) politics, government, but I also am a “Tree-hugger” and a bit of a money man. This leaves me in a rough situation making decisions for undergraduate majors. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks

You can major in anything and your undergraduate major need not be related to what you want to do as a lawyer (with perhaps the exception of patent/IP law, which is easier to get into with a science or engineering major).

You don’t have to make any decisions about what kind of law you want to practice right now, so you should major in things that you’re interested in. Sounds like history, political science, environmental studies or economics/finance are all potential interests. You can pick a major by taking a class or two in each of those areas and then seeing what you like the best.

Much appreciated! Thank you, Juillet
