<p>San Jose state university does not require calculus for students and i know a good number of people who graduated from there and got jobs in the bay area. Where as there are other schools who require calculus as part of the major. I live 17miles from sjsu and am planning on attending there. How come some universities require calculus and others do not. I know some Uc's that dont require it and some that do .</p>
<p>Well some finance is just basic math (algebra). Furthermore, just because those students aren’t required to take calculus doesn’t mean they didn’t take it. I’m not sure why some schools do not require calculus for finance (may be it’s a university thing to like not scare people away…). It’s strange.</p>
<p>Not even calculus I? I guess in theory I could see a poor program stopping before teaching integration of derivatives, which is where the people who are going to have problems with math at a college level have their problems, but to not even get to that point is laughable.</p>

<p>I want to major in smoething to do with applied math hence finances and calculus. I would rather major in stats and probablity but job offering arent as high as an accountants after i leave college. As an intern i could work at a bank or a hedgefund during college just to get the expirience before i actually have to leave college.</p>
