Hi,
I’m in my 7th semester in my college. Due to poor choices by me and the options the college offers Im not on track to finish in four years. I have not taken a finance course yet I was planning on taking the pre rec finance course to all the other pre recs in the winter. Unfortunately my college does not offer it during the winter. And the chairperson will not let me take the pre rec finance course along with my other finance courses at the same time. Now you would think I would only have to stay an extra semester but since my college hardly offers some of these classes in might by another whole year. Thats right. 5 years to complete a finance degree all because of me being an idiot and also because of one class. What should I do guys? Should I change my major? Any advice at all would be appreciated.
It’s not unheard of to take five years to graduate.
Some things to consider here:
Is the major you would graduate with instead equally useful for your career plans?
Do any scholarships or financial aid grants stop after four years?
Are you just ready to get on with your life with whatever degree you can get?
If you are only taking one prerequisite course in semester nine, can you get discounted tuition?
If you are only taking one course, will there be any financial aid or housing consequences?
Can you see if you can take the course at a local community college? If the college advertises their finance degree and then barely offers the core courses required to graduate on time, it seems like the school could plan better.
Ive tried that, unfortunately not. The course is not offered in the winter typically anywhere.
You can also use the extra year to get an internship, add a minor, or expand your depth/breadth in your major.
Can you stay and take it in the summer. A lot of students do that to stay on the 4 year plan.
