Finance major...?

So I want to major in finance, with an ultimate goal of working with investments, banking, stock market (I live right near NYC)

Can anybody give me some insight into what the best route to take is. Do I go for a BA with a "specialization" in finance. Do I go for a BS in finance... Is it necessary to go to grad school?

Any insight would be helpful. I am overwhelmed with all the different paths and don't know what's best.

Thanks

Finance is a great major to get into if you want those career paths as mentioned above. Try to get a GPA higher than 3.6 and land an awesome internship at a big investment firm or bank, something investment banking and analyst, and you are well positioned to getting interviews at any of those investment related careers.

I graduated under finance at a big ten school, and had a great internship so it really helped me get those interviews. But I must warn you how competitive the job market can be. try to network properly as well.

Some schools offer a finance major and others just offer a specialization. Either route is fine, and as Epoch707 mentioned, a internship is key. Anything you can do to get your foot in the door is critical. You may well want to get an MBA in the future, but definitely work in finance first, don’t go straight to grad school.
