So I don't know the difference between these 2 majors. And I am currently applying to CSU's as accounting major and I am thinking of changing my major to finance, anybody can give me opinions on this? I honestly kinda want to major on all of them >.< (finance, accounting, Business adm) but i think it's very hard to do. Are these three majors almost the same or are they different?

depends on what you want to do. just look on career websites to get an idea of what kind of jobs you'll get with each major.

In a corporate setting, the finance and accounting majors will get into essentially the same kind of work. The controller (accounting position), however, has more pull within an organization than the treasurer. Probably because the controller usually has more of a grasp on the company's key components due to the responsibility of doing internal audits, and financial statements.

The two degrees are similar, but as an accounting major, I've found that I am able to pick up on and understand a lot more about business finance, and investments than the finance majors are able to pick up on corporate taxation, balance sheets, reconciliations, etc.

It's kind of like Portuguese and Spanish. Accounting is Portuguese, and Finance is Spanish. Spanish speakers can usually understand about half of what Portuguese speakers are saying, and Portuguese speakers can understand about 90% of Spanish.

So, Accounting has the edge!

well let's see...
I want to open my own business =D
ya! hopefully i can one day so thas my goal.. which major shud i take?
Will accounting help me on this?

Trust me on this: major in accounting and minor in finance! Just check out your local newspaper for jobs. Accounting jobs are very plentiful and are in-demand. However, let me warn you: accounting is usually the toughest major in most business schools. It is the Marine Corp of business school. It is very regimented and usually requres 30 credits beyond the BBA degree if you are going to sit for the CPA. Also, the grading is much tougher in accounting. In a sense, it is almost as hard as engineering. Finance is usually a much easier major too, and most employers are aware of these differences.

Grad schools also know that accounting is a tough major. My son might be interested in forensic work/accounting masters programs. One of the schools that I inquired about told me that they want a minimum 3.0 GPA to get admitted. However, when I told them that my son was majoring in accounting, their response was, "we will reduce the required GPA for accounting and engineering majors by .2 due to the toughness of the curriculum."

^^ forensic accounting is one of the most fascinating fields, IMO.

learn both.

=D yea but im kinda interested in music(guitar) and thinking of taking some courses at whichever college im going. Will that be hindrance for majoring in accounting and minor in finance?

nope, I'm sure you could minor in music too. Accounting and finance are such compliments of eachother that majoring in accounting and minoring in finance will seem like just majoring in the same thing the whole time...seriously.

wouldnt then the classes overlap? so i would have to take only 1 instead of 2?
