Hello,
Im attending UCF in Orlando, Florida and I cant decide between these two majors. Everyone is saying economics is good but I cant find any job listings anywhere for econ majors. Finace on the other hand seems to be booming, I see jobs posted all over the interenet. So what has a better job outlook?

I should also say that im not looking to mkae 80k to start off with like some people in business are. Im just looking for a job that can keep me and my family comfortable. I like finance but how come I keep reading aout people in finance not being able to get jobs? The occupational handbook predicts finance jobs to grow 37% !! that seems quite a bit to me…

Finance booming…? I don’t know about that. You don’t have to be a expert to see that a lot of these financial companies are in trouble, they talk about it 24/7 in papers and on TV. A lot of people have lost their jobs, there has been a lot of business majors, on top of that many companies has put a freeze on hiring. It really depends on what you think, do you think there will be a recovery soon? Perhaps you think it will be once you graduate. Or do you think that the our economy is no where near recovery? Either way it effects all fields.
I’m not sure where most economics majors end up working, but I believe you can get as good of a job. There’s probably more government jobs for econ majors.

that’s why i am planning to double-major

i think strong econ background help finance major a lot. Also, you will be more competetive, unless you get bad GPA as a double major

Why is everyone recomending accounting and actuary proffesions? from what Ive seen Finance and accounting seem near identical class wise. and From job postings ive seen alot of them require a B.A in accounting or finance. Maybe its just not clicking with me but alot of majors seem near identical…not only in buisness but elsewhere as well
