Finance + pre- med

I was wondering...

1) Is it possible to major in finance, and still take all of the pre- med reqs (1 year of: bio, chem, organic chem, physics, and calc) before senior year?
2) I couldn't find the reqs in Stern for the finance major on the site, so I would also appreciate a link to them. :-)

When I went to orientation, my advisor told me that there are definitely people who follow the pre-med track at Stern. However, I don't know if they are finance majors, or no.

Google Stern undergraduate curriculum worksheet. It's very possible to do it, though it will be tough. You will be basically taking All business classes and All premed classes with room for a few electives. The schedule would be tough also as stern classes can get tough and premed classes are always hard with long labs. If you can handle it, go for it.

Ok, thanks. I am more concerned about fullfulling them earlier on, to finish them by beggining of junior year, because you should take the MCAT at the end of jr. year. Would that be possible? I would rather use my electives early on to accomplish this rather than to take the classes I need for my major first.

I took the MCAT in the April of my junior year. By that time, the only pre-med class I still had was Bio, and we'd already covered all the relevant info (( think we were talking about plants by then).

Freshman year: Calc II, Calc III, Gen Chem, WTE
Sophomore year: English, Physics, Orgo
Junior year: Biology

Of course, I was a chem major, so your mileage may vary.

Ok, but has anyone in Stern done this? Also, can you delay your stern classes freshman year (a couple of them) to take several pre- med reqs?

keep in mind this can actually HURT you going into finance interviews. 1) your GPA will be non-trivially lower if you try to do both 2) you will seem unfocused, and interviewers seems to care alot about focus (they get angry if you apply to two different departments at a bank)

Ok, thanks. But really what I would like to know is, can you delay talking those humanities that they say you take freshman year and other classes, just so you get a lot of those pre- reqs done freshman year?

Anyone ...?

Yeah, you don't need to take anything but WTE and Stern's WTE freshman year (you can even put those off, but trust me, you want that trauma out of the way as soon as possible). Conwest and World Cultures and Nat Sci can definitely be pushed off, but you can probably replace your Nat Sci req with one of your premed classes. Don't worry, I know people who've done the finance/premed thing and gone on to med school without a problem. Just make sure to talk to advisors as soon as possible so you can fit in everything necessary.
