Finance vs Accounting and recent tumble of financials

Accounting or finance
Can't choose
Accounting fits me more but I want to fit to finance
But fitting to finance seems harder now with the tumbling on wall street
or is it???

Does anyone know if these recent times have any affect on finance/accounting prospects?

===
PS
I'm mad btw
Accounting is supposed to be the hardest business undergrad major.
Most lucrative college degrees - May. 9, 2003 2003, acct grew faster and was worth more than finance
Most lucrative college degrees '04 - Feb. 5, 2004
acct grew slower but still worth more
Starting pay for college grads posts modest gains - Feb. 10, 2005
Acct gets a rebound...
Most lucrative college degrees - Feb. 15, 2006
Both show great growth but finance grows even better
College grads see higher starting salaries this year - Jul. 12, 2007
Finance surpasses acct! And economics does even better (huh)

accounting stalls again, finance slows down but maintains and grows lead.

yahhhh so. What do you guys think about finance major and the recent tumbling of the big financials?

Accountants will always have amazing job stability due to regulations.

pfft

well what about this mccain guy that wants to get rid of the 60,000 page tax code (of course I realize not literally).

That's debatable and would vary from university to university. Generally, I'd say MIS is the hardest business major.

*** does this mean?

BTW, you shouldn't be so concerned about salary numbers. You will end up making more money in the long run if you do something you enjoy.

I wouldn't worry about that. Since it's in the country's best interest to simplify the tax system, McCain will probably do just the opposite.

Vector, I'd take a finance job at 40K over an acct job at 50K anyday (well, if I get to do fun stuff like travel, negotiate deals, work with foreign currencies, subprime, interest rates and whatnot).

What I mean by fitting to acct is that
[Accounting
"Attentive to detail and analytical. Since accountants spend much of their time advising and communicating with others, from the general public to CEOs, communication skills are essential for success. "

geez is there any career where communication isn't a key to success... Well, still, the stereotype of the accountant is the lonesome number cruncher.

"Good with numbers, a great communicator, a creative problem solver, and a team player. You should also enjoy research."
I'm goot with numbers, aiite with communicating, not creative, and I usually like to hog the team since I only believe in myself. And damn these financial markets, up and down. How am I supposed to infer anything about anything?

Any thoughts on the implications of the tumbling of the financials and the accounting/finance major?

PS, something that also sucks is that
Robinson</a> : Graduate Career Management : Placement Statistics](<a href="http://www.collegeboard.com/csearch/majors_careers/profiles/majors/52.0301.html%5DAccounting%5B/url">http://www.collegeboard.com/csearch/majors_careers/profiles/majors/52.0301.html)
most of the nation's finance majors make more than acct, yet at georgia state, it's a different picture (though their acct program I believe is top ~20 depending on the survey). If I get a finance job cool, but 40K is already the low end of what I'm looking at.

If you enjoy finance or believe you would enjoy it then pursue finance.

These career profiles are good for people that don't know much about the careers, but they are still simply broad generalizations. There are different types of successful people in every line of work. A career profile can help guide your decision but if you aren't interested in accounting, don't do accounting.

Travelling for work is generally not as glamorous as it sounds.

Tumbling is far too strong of a word. It's impossible to say what the future may hold. Accounting has obviously proven to be a very steady job over the years, but you are still young and the implications/risks are probably not that great for you anyways.
