Finance vs. Operations

So which area (Finance vs. Operations) do you guys provide better opportunities coming out of the Analyst Programs?

Finance (10 char)

I worked with people in operations in my internship this past summer, and it kinda sucks. Although, there are many facets to operations, but those where the feelings I got from people.

I had some intern friends in operations and they seemed to feel it was kind of a dead end thing. I dont know anything myself, but my intern friends haven’t been to happy with it.

thanks guys that was the feeling I was getting as well…

can any of you explain a little bit why operations seem not be good?

One person I worked with put Operations as managing “an assembly line within a bank”… It just seems to be very repetitive and mundane, with no real challenges unless there is a new system being implemented.

It’s also not a revenue generating role, which I think is always tough. Most people probably dont want to be viewed as “support staff” like operations folks often are.

I was a Civil Engineering student and did the Goldman Salt Lake Ops intern last summer. I wrote a review of my experience with the internship.

I hope this helps you all get a good feel for what the internship was like.
