Financial Aid Advice

When my family received the FAFSA report, the EFC was 00000. With each post I have read on college confidential/ other websites I have found that people are saying that and EFC of 00000 will usually bring about financial aid from Notre Dame that leaves the family paying 6 to 12 thousand dollars. In my case, Notre Dame gave be 7,000 in scholarship, pell grant of 5,500 and another grant of 2000 and 2600 in work. This leaves me paying about 40,000 per year for Notre Dame... 40,000 more thousand than what my family EFC says should be required.

I am wondering if there is anything I can do to get more money from Notre Dame? Is it useless to call the financial aid department asking for more money?

What are your assets like? It sounds like the CSS Profile probably painted a much different picture than the FAFSA, since Notre Dame meets full need, as they calculate it.

They are 500,000+ in assets, income is sub 15,000… I also just read that if I get scholarships from private organizations the scholarship/grants from notre dame are adjusted, is this true? Is there anything I can do to get more aid?

Yeah, it’s likely your assets that caused your high price tag.

If you get outside scholarships, Notre Dame will take away any loans they included in your financial aid package. They wont’ take it away from the scholarships/grants that you received.

You have OVER 500k in cash holdings. This is not including your house. Your income is irrelevant when you are holding that amount of cash. Frankly, you should be ineligible for FA.
