Financial Aid after First Year for International Students?

I'm Canadian and I was accepted for the class of 2015 and I'm 99.99% sure that I will be attending. When I submitted my application my family could support my education. But in February my Gramma in China had to had an organ failure and my parents paid for the surgery and will be paying for post surgical treatment... Now I'm not sure if my family can afford my education. Does Washu offer Financial Aid or Scholarships after the first year if I didn't apply for any this year?

Yes - it wouldn’t make sense if they didn’t offer financial aid if your financial situation changes. You should contact the financial aid office now and talk it over with them; maybe they can offer you money for freshman year, even though you didn’t apply at first?

You will most likely not receive any money for first year since you didn’t apply for it. After that, there is good chance you will, though I cannot say for sure. Are you coming during multicultural weekend or visiting anytime soon? I always find talking to the financial office or OISS (Office of International Students and Scholars) people in person will help quite a bit in regards to financial situations (I am a Canadian student as well). If you are not visiting, I guess the next best thing is to just talk to them over the phone.

I’ve taken your advice and called Washu. The lady on the phone assured me that I can apply later and the financial aid office will work something out for me. Very Very relieved. Unfortunately, this little bird can’t make it to Multicultural weekend :(

:( Well, you’ll be really happy here =) WashU’s a great choice.

YES absolutely, I was like a chipmunk on crack the day I got my acceptance letter. I’m getting a head start too because I got accepted into the Summer Biology and Biomedical research program. Can’t wait till college :P
