Financial aid and drug charges

I made a post a few months ago about a friend’s daughter who was caught with pot and charged with a misdemeanor. Since then, she’s hired a lawyer and the charges were deferred- from what I understand, if she stays out of trouble for a year, the charges will be dropped. So she has not actually been convicted of a crime. My question is- when signing financial aid papers, is there a question as to if one has been charged with (nor convicted of) a drug crime? Is this something that she needs to tell the school’s financial aid office? Or since she wasn’t convicted of anything, can she just not mention it?
Thanks!

FAFSA asks if the applicant has been “convicted for the possession or sale of illegal drugs for an offense that occurred while you were receiving federal student aid (such as grants, work-study, or loans).”

Don’t mention it. Kid got a pass this time, run with it.

If the friend wants further info than what has already been provided, she needs to ask the question herself. Closing thread.
