hey guys, im new to the thread, but a long time observer ;]
i applied ED because i really really really really wanted to go to penn, but from what i hear, EDers get screwed over with financial aid…true?
i really need it too…if my income is below a certain level, they cant offer me nothing, so does that mean ill get stuck with more work-study aid or loans instead of gift aid?
ahhhhhh…

the THEORY that people argue is that ED people use the same formula, and get the same awards that they would RD. the difference is that ED people have next to no leverage to bargain for more $$$$ if the award is insufficient.

shoot. whatever..im willing to work and pay off massive debts as long as i get in. thanks for your help.

hahaha, me too :D!!!!!!!!!!!

they give good financial aid if you need it. i mean i got one of those pre reads and they said 37k and i thought that was a relatively good amount.

"whatever..im willing to work and pay off massive debts as long as i get in."

lol, i totally agree. if i were to get in, i wouldn't care how much work-study i'd have to do!!

"whatever..im willing to work and pay off massive debts as long as i get in."
yup me too...it's definitely a huge burden for my parents.. and if the US dollar keeps appreciating against mine.. it's gonna be worse! just wondering what's the estimated 'debt u guys will end up with? (if u don't mind telling that is..)
cos..it's not a norm for pple here to end up in debts due to education.. thus only the rich or or pple who are on scholarships go overseas

yea it sucks to have your currency depreciate against the US$... we'll have to cash in more than we said we would (although it'll be the same amount in US$) every year because of falling currency! :(

defnitely!! my friend was a lucky one.. he's a malaysian.. and when malaysia unpegged its exchange rate, his estimated 4 yrs expenses decreased by USD8K (wch is alot to him.. cos it's ard 26K in ringit.

aaron: are you taking your finals now, or the june paper?

who cares about money?

i just wanna get in!

At one of the visiting days the speaker said that ED people can reapply for financial aid if they didn't this it was enough the first time

ED is great for ppl in the higher and lower income levels. Full aid(or close) for lower income, obviously higher income don't need FA. But for those in the middle or even upper middle class, FA offered can be less than the family is able to realistically pay without making a big sacrifice in standard of living.

yea, i am going to be screwed with financial aid. but, as you've all said, i'm willing to do whatever if they'll accept me.
