Does anyone know if students who get presidential scholarship still qualify for some financial aid?

it will depend on your family’s EFC. i know that is vague but that’s best answer I can give for now. if your EFC is higher than remaining costs after the scholarship, the only FA that I think will be offered will be the $5500 student loan that any student can get. if your EFC is lower than remaining costs, I’m not sure how generous Temple is with need based aid. did you submit your FAFSA yet? feel free to pm me if u want to talk more. Temple kids are on spring break now so hopefully some will chime in next week with their real world experience.

Congratulations on becoming a presidential scholar! A lot of my friends have the presidential scholarship and they love the perks that come with it. You are still eligible for financial aid especially if you are living on campus. However, like ctl987 said, it depends on your family’s financial situation.

We did submit the FAFSA, it would be nice to get some aid to help with living expenses but we might not qualify.
Do they send fin aid letters out on the rolling basis? Some schools don’t send anything until end of march- beginning of April

My daughter received her financial aid letter from Temple late last week. It includes the pres. scholarship information. Hope that helps.

Thanks

Suppose a family has a zero EFC. Can they expect Presidential (with the stats of course) + Pell/state aid in addition? I believe the answer is yes. A related question wold be, does Temple award any need-based aid of its own and if so, would that stack with Presidential resulting, possibly, a full tuition-room-board ride? How about outside scholarships?

Hey OHMOMof2,
My family does not have the best financial situation so I think I could effectively answer your question. Pell/state aid can be added to your financial aid package. However, your financial aid package can’t exceed the cost of attendance thus your aid +merit can’t > tuition +room &Board. Temple does not offer any private need based aid. The school’s tuition is not as high as other colleges especially private colleges. If you actually google Temple you will also notice that Temple’s endowment fund is really small relative to other top ranked colleges that give institutional grants. Outside Scholarships impact financial aid in the case that they exceed your total cost of attendance. I would recommend going after outside scholarships since they are really helpful.

Thanks. D would get the presidential, so it’s a matter of covering room, board, books, etc. Which is like $15K per year, depending on meal plan, dorm, courses, etc. It’s that I’m wondering about covering with Pell or other aid. Unfortunately we aren’t in-state for Temple so wouldn’t get Ohio state help or PA state help.

Kid’s FA info was online very shortly after he paid the $200 deposit to attend Temple and the letter came about a w week later. I don’t know if was a coincidence that they processed it right after he paid the deposit or not. My best guess is that it was not a coincidence. He has a pretty straight forward FA package so that may have made his a quick one to process.

^ My letter came around the same time yours did and I haven’t paid anything yet so I don’t think it was merely coincidence.

I did get the Presidential Scholarship but only qualified for a loan but technically, the financial aid package covered my EFC.
