Financial aid and ship!

So I'm getting mixed information about financial aid covering for SHIP. I'm being told that if your EFC is low enough, then financial aid will most likely cover the cost of SHIP via grants. But if I waive out of SHIP, does this mean my financial aid will be lowered, since I won't have those extra grants to pay for SHIP?

I'm mainly confused because I've waived out of SHIP mostly because I didn't want my financial aid to pay that extra $813, ultimately decreasing the amount that I would get refunded via EFT.

For example, if I normally get refunded $5000, but decide to KEEP SHIP, will I still have that same $5000 refunded back to me via EFT? Or will I only get back $4187 via EFT because I still need to pay off the $813 fee? If the former is true, that means I should just keep SHIP because it wouldn't take any money away from me (and I will basically have free health insurance)? Thanks for all the help!

Hm well I know that if you decide to waive ship you have to provide proof of other health insurance, and I just decided to keep it because it’s actually a really great deal as far as insurance goes. Im not sure if your finaid package would be adjusted but it most likely would considering the fact that your aid is determined by cost of attendance which ship is already figured into. If you can find a cheaper insurance, I’m assuming that whatever you claim to be the premium will end up being readjusted into your package so that you really won’t make out with any more money than you would have otherwise, but don’t quote me bro lol.

I don’t know if this is just me (my finaid, AP scores and housing are all screwed up haha a scholarship I turned in during welcome week just got credited this month) but I waived out of SHIP, and it still shows up on myfinaid…and my offer hasn’t changed. Since you already waived, isn’t it too late? I think it would be best if you talk to them in person to confirm, just to get rid of the uncertainty.
