Hello,
I am a CA high-school Senior looking into attending James Madison. I have a few questions about the college though. Foremost, how great is the financial aid? I am a Hispanic male from a 70,000 a year household, and hold a place in the top 10 percent of my high school class (18/650). I have an UW GPA of something like 3.8 and a W GPA of 4.33, my SAT wasn't very good the first time (1760) but I am re-taking it in October and project to achieve between 2000 and 2100. So, would I get a decent amount of merit and need-based aid? Finally, just how bad is the weather in Harrisburg? I am one of the rare Southern Californians that enjoys the winter more than the summer, but I am unsure if a 40 degree winter is close to a VA winter. Thanks for any feedback!

JMU does not promise to meet full need of accepted students. Have you run your numbers through the NPC on the JMU website? This will give you an idea of what JMU would expect you to pay to attend.

In terms of scholarships, the largest is the Dingledine. It requires a separate application and EA application to JMU. Both are due 11/1. This scholarship is equal to full in-state tuition renewable for four years.

JMU has smaller merit scholarships that range from approximately 1/2 in-state tuition renewable for four years to one time awards in the $1000 - $2000 range. Many of these awards are offered by specific major programs.

In terms of the weather… the winters here vary from year to year… three years ago we had multiple 20-inch snow storms… a few years before that we did not have much snow, but it was unusually cold for this area (below zero)… the past few years have been pretty mild. Who knows what this winter will bring ;-)
