Financial Aid and Work-Study Question? Help!

Hi, I have two questions regarding financial aid and work-study jobs. The first question is about my financial aid planner. The planner gives me an estimated cost of attendance. How accurate is this number? When applying for a plus loan, should I go a bit over the recommended amount or should I request the exact amount they say?

My second question is about work-study. I was given $2500 (1250 per semester). I know that the limit for the amount of hours that a student can work is 20 per week (40 during breaks). My question is can I hold two jobs, one to cover work-study and one to bring in regular income? It seems that with the 20 hour limit, that I can work 5-6 days for anywhere from 2-4 hours a day. A second part time job sounds realistic, but do they allow it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think the financial aid planner is pretty accurate with it’s cost of attendance since it factors in things like books and transportation based on past students, but it does vary from person to person obviously. Depends on how much you think you’d spend outside of tuition and fees, which are set in stone already. It’s hard to say whether you want to take more debt now to be safe that you won’t run out.

You can only have one work-study job that applies toward your work-study funds of 2500. No rules against having a second job where the money doesn’t apply to the 2500 though. The benefit of the work study funds are that they aren’t taxed.
