Can someone please look over my appeal letter to financial aid. Last semester was really terrible for me so now here I am writing an appeal letter financial aid to give me another chance. Thank you to anyone that decided to give me feedback or took time out to read this.
This is a formal request asking for your consideration to allow me to reapply for financial aid. Over the past year I have learned imperative life lessons and am now ready to move forward with my academic career. I ask that you review my reasoning for being unfocused last semester.
Unfortunately, I was unable to apply myself properly to my courses due to several dire circumstances. These are not excuses for my failure to succeed in school, however they are simply explanations. First of all, my brother was shot four times and was in the hospital sustaining severe injuries. Since my father passed away in 2015, I wanted to ensure that I was present and able to help my brother through this terrible time. Once my brother was released from the hospital, he was still experiencing complications with breathing and being mobile on his own. At the time, I felt that I was doing the right thing, interceding and helping my family. However, I have come to the realization that I put far too much emphasis and focus on him and as a result did not do well with my studies. Sadly, this particular situation not only effected my academic focus it also effected my work as well. In fact, I was let go from work because of it.
I should not have allowed my brothers crisis to consume my life as it did. Family is important, however, I have now learned how to balance my life in such a way that my priorities have changed. With that being said, I would like to express my dedication to moving forward at [XXXXX] University and I ask that you allow me to have a second chance in regard to financial aid. Though I will still help my family when need be, I am now ready and willing to put my heart and soul into my education.
Should you need documentation of my brothers’ incident or my fathers death, I’ve provided them with this letter. Please allow me to have a second chance and to prove that I am ready and willing for this. I am well prepared for continuing on my way to furthering my education. I have spoken to my advisor regarding eligibility for the assistance program and will remain in close contact with my advisor to ensure I meet each requirement
