Financial Aid Appeal

<p>I received my acceptance letter at the end of March, and a financial aid award (for CAS) that leaves my family paying about $30000 (basically $17000 than what they can really pay). I sent a tearfelt appeal letter asking for a more sufficient award and citing that CMU offered me a full ride, relieving my parents of the financial burden. The problem is, FAFSA overestimated my contribution by about $15000 &my financial situation has changed (included in the appeal letter). Does anyone know how generously NYU will respond to my appeal (if at all)?? </p>

<p>Also, I have to make a decision in 1.5 weeks, so I hope they're prompt!</p>

<p>you should call, they'll hear the appeal... but it looks the max theyre giving out for appeals is 2500</p>

<p>I forgot to mention that I need to stop putting it off as well. I'm nervous because I am ED and I'm so screwed now it isn't even funny. I have no idea what I'm going to do.</p>

<p>I think I tried like, 12 times last year WITH a professional financial aid consultant and they pretty much didn't give a crap. NYU is notorious for that.</p>

<p>I called the office and the lady said that the financial aid office would look at my appeal and that they would call me in 1-2 days.I got a phone call the very next day and they added 1K per year. It sucks but it's def. something.</p>

<p>Did you have to give a reason and such for why you appealed? So would I have to send anything in?</p>

<p>No. No reason. They actually didn't want me to send anything.</p>

<p>That kinda sucks. How are they to see what to give each person. Damn.</p>

<p>Went through the appeals process, found out I'm getting an extra $2000 a year in scholarship. Not too shabby, every dollar counts for something.</p>

<p>I called and they said the appeal process is over for early decision candidates and there is nothing I can do. This is totally not fair. My amount CHANGED from what they told me in the first place and now I have no way to get the money I need. </p>

<p>Hey Ashley - if they changed the amount you should be freed from the ED contract. Sounds like a nightmare : / Hope things work out to your advantage</p>

<p>I mean..even if I can get out of the contract...I have no where to go next year. I turned down the only other place I applied and I think it's too late to start applying now.</p>

<p>I would contact the other school ASAP and explain the situation, or start applying to schools with rolling admissions. What subject areas are you interested in? I'm very sorry to hear that NYU dropped the ball.</p>
