Financial Aid Appeal

I just got my finaid package today and was very disappointed. almost all my other schools offered almost twice as much in grants as cmu offered.

hamilton offered me a package i wish cmu would offer, would submitting the finaid reward from hamilton change anything?

(i know cmu is a different type of school and can be argued that it is better...)

No loss if you give it a shot.

Did you submit your financial aid on time? I got a really good deal from CMU, and I submitted my financial aid app in Jan.

i submitted mine in towards the end of jan, early feb

i just checked up on the cmu status page, they said they received my finaid docs in the beginning of march even though i sent them out pretty earyly

There are some parents on the Parent Forum who are knowledgeable about financial aid appeals. I'm not one of them ;). But I suggest you search and/or post there if you don't get some knowledgeable experience on this thread.

I believe that they DO suggest you appeal, but I don't remember the tips on how best to do it and when one is/isn't likely to succeed.

If I recall correctly, I think there is value in contacting CMU to indicate that they are your first choice if only the package would work as well as that from some other schools. You could also ask why the status seems to indicate that the finaid docs were only processed in March when you had sent them earlier. And ask whether that timing would make a difference. If so, would you do better in future years if you matriculate htere?

Good luck.
