I am between Georgetown and Northwestern. I really prefer Georgetown, but Northwestern offered me significantly more money. Is there any way to get Georgetown to revise their offer? I really have my heart set on that school.

Tell Georgetown about Northwestern's offer, and ask if GT if they'd reconsider. Let them know you're their first choice. You do have a chance since you'd prefer to go to the school that's ranked lower than the school that gave you the best offer. The reverse seldom works out.

It's way too late now, you should have started the appeal process weeks ago.

It is not too late. I appealed financial aid and the school got back to me within days. Literally. It's never too late to try. And if they can't get back to you in time, if you really are unsure, you can put two deposits down. And when you here back from the financial aid department of GT, you can make ur final decision.

It's always worth trying.

If I'm the FA officer the first thing I say is "why did this kid wait so long to appeal?. April 25? We must be low on his/her list. Next..."

99% of the small pot of $ set aside for appeals is already gone to students organized enough to appeal right after getting award. You can send an appeal but it won't work so late.

Most schools take a couple weeks to process the appeals and many have appeal deadlines that have passed.

I sent in my D appeal (3 much larger merit awards) in this past Friday (overnight) and was told that the "reconsideration Committee" meets once each week, I was told yesterday that I will hear today. The FA. person told me to send in the offers. Good luck. JG

I'm appealing so late because Georgetown only sent me their final offer (updated with 2007 tax returns) yesterday.

So you've received multiple FA offers from Georgetown and now you are going to appeal their final offer on 4/25?

I wish you luck. Not to be mean, but I seriously hope you have a backup plan.

Yes, because their revised offer was significantly reduced from their previous offers. It was comparable to Northwestern's before, and now there is a sizeable difference. I am not disorganized, nor have I been procrastinating.

Go ahead and appeal. The worst they can say is no.

They reduced your award once they received the 2007 tax returns and marked it final. Go ahead and appeal, but they are not going to budge at this late date. Sorry, but it is reality.

I disagree. I only started to appeal this past week, and I have received additional grant money from my top school.

I appealed another school a few weeks ago, but they never got back to me. So I sent a second email yesterday, and they are going to start the appeal process for me now, and should have a decision back to me within a few days.

In my opinion, it is never too late. Just do it. If they say no, they say no. But you won't know until you try, and at this point, time is of the essence.

You are in a different situation than the OP. The OP has been through multiple rounds of FA awards with the school already. The school then asked for 2008 actual tax returns and then reduced the award and marked it "final". Not much left to appeal I'd say.

Just trying to give a realistic view to the OP.

You have nothing to lose by trying. I just sent in an appeal on Monday to one school. I may not get any money, but at least I tried.
