Financial Aid application deadline

I thought that for regular decision, most FAFSA/CSS forms would be due Feb. 1 or at some schools Feb. 15.

I logged in today to start filling out forms, and see that Wellesley's deadline was 2 days ago, January 15th!

1) Are we able to file the forms now, if we pull them together quickly? Or are we completely out of luck?

2) How can they expect the forms to be filled in so soon after Jan 1st? We're an overseas family with a complicated tax filing situation, and our numbers are also changing drastically from 2011 to this year. So it's not a matter of just plugging in last year's numbers for an estimate. (We know we can edit the information later, but want to be as accurate as possible.) We've been collecting the information and doing worksheets up til now, but only logged in today to start filing electronically (we already applied for and received our PINs).

All of the other schools my D applied to have February deadlines, so this has thrown us through a loop. Thanks for any advice - I'm going to keep filling out the form as best we can right now, just in case there's hope for filing today.

Call or email the Wellesley Financial Services office (sfs@wellesley.edu) and ask them what you should do. I would recommend filing the FAFSA ASAP and sending it to Wellesley with last year’s information, even if you know it’s not going to be accurate, and then updating the FAFSA later with this year’s information when you have it all together. Updating the FAFSA electronically when you have this year’s information is not that hard to do. Wellesley just wants to know if you are applying for institutional financial aid and what your ballpark estimate of income from this past year is.
