I’m seriously considering Bowdoin and really would like to go. However, my financial aid package sucks. (Even NYU and BU, who are notoriously stingy, offered me more money, but I still can’t afford those two schools.) My friend (who got $24,000+ from her other schools) got $0 from Bowdoin, so it seems like there’s a trend in the financial aid package. But I also read that Bowdoin has a huge endowment. Are they bad with financial aid? (Because with their “huge endowment,” I was expecting they’d meet my EFC.)

I would recommend visiting Bowdoin and setting up an appointment with the person who prepared your fin aid package (they should be listed on your award notification). Make an appeal for additional money and see what they say (rather, have your parents make the appeal). They're usually quite receptive to appeals. Good luck.

yeah, my bowdoin financial aid sucks too. My mom actually did try to appeal, but to no avail.

I got good financial aid (they're asking for $5600 per yr. plus loans) but it wasn't what I was hoping for (my EFC was $1150). Trinity College is asking for $1200, so I'm thinking that since I'm going to the orientation on Friday and have an appointment with a financial aid person, if I show them the alternative offer, they might consider coming at least close to matching it. Does that sound reasonable, or am I just fantasizing?
