Financial Aid at Lafayette

Without going into too much detail, can some of you accepted students give a quick run-down of your F.A. package at Lafayette? There is a similar thread for Lehigh - it looks like Lehigh is right on the spot with EFC. Many of those kids got substantial grants with small-ish loans (under $3,000). How does Lafayette stack up for real kids?

Fencersmother -- My daughter's FA package included $26,000 in scholarships and grants, a $3,500 Stafford loan and a $7,500 HELP loan. Total $37K approx. Our EFC from FAFSA was 23K, but that was based on 2007 income that included bonuses and other non-recurring income. It appears that Lafayette recalculated our real need based on the Profile and supplementary information I provided. We are very happy with the FA package because until we received it we were not certain that Lafayette was affordable.

hudson, did your daughter's FA package come with the acceptance letter?

Snell -- My daughter did receive her FA package with the acceptance letter, but that was because she has received a scholarship. It is my understanding that accepted students who are not Marquis or Trustee scholars will receive their FA packages around April 10th. Congratulations on your acceptance to Lafayette!

Thanks Hudson, I remembered (AFTER Coop reminded me!!!) that it was posted on the site! As I said-the wait continues.....

Our FAFSA exceded tuition, room, and board costs and we received no scholarships or grants, just the $3,500 Stafford Loan. My son was accepted ED, and I wonder if that placed him in some kind of category that makes it less likely to receive financial aid.

To be fair, our FAFSA exceded costs, so by the formula we can afford to pay. My wife and I planned well for this moment, and I'm grateful that we can afford it. The only problem is that we have 3 other children to put through school after him. Perhaps that will be taken into consideration when the youngers ones reach that stage. Nonetheless, I have to admit that I wouldn't mind getting a little help. No matter how you cut it, $44,000/yr. is a lot of money. Regardless of the cost though, we're thrilled that our son will be attending such a wonderful school.
