I am an international student thinking of applying ED in Mac for fall 2015.But I will be needing a lot of Financial aid(I will only be able to pay 10000 dollar annually which means I need a full tuition aid). How much my financial need affect my admission in ED?...And Does mac prefer UWC student to a international non UWC guy.?It seems that past 5-6 years, no one has directly gone mac from my country(NEPAL)..Thank you in advance

Macalester does prefer UWC students. Other schools that prefer UWC students include Brown, Middlebury and Colby. However, this does not mean that these schools don’t admit other internationals. Note that admission to Macalester and most top LACs w/ fin aid is highly selective for international students whether you apply ED or RD.

Thank you international95!.I also want to know how much a typical mac international (non uwc) guy pay annually?
And how much accurate is Mac net aid calculator. It shows that I have to pay 9000 dollar annually.

Typically? There is no data available that would answer your question because Macalester does not break down aid offered to UWC and non-UWC international students. The average financial aid offered to a typical international student is $42,942. So the average international pays around $17k (this does not include personal expenses, but it does include health insurance).

From what I have seen, it would be useful to have a $20k EFC in terms of getting into Mac as a non-UWC international. For someone with an EFC around $10k, this may be difficult to afford, but I suspect that you could, indeed, graduate in 3 years if you already know what you want to major in, and are willing to sacrifice exploring different subjects. This will take shrewd planning and an ability to handle pressure, as there will be at least 3 semesters in which you will have to overload classes. I have seen people do it, though.

The calculator is not meant for international students.

If you can pay $10,000 annually, I would not recommend you apply ED to Macalester or any other college. International 95 is so right: “The calculator is not meant for international students.”
