Financial Aid at TAMU

How is Texas A&M when it comes to financial aid? How much financial aid would you expect to get if you have an EFC of 0? How hard is it to get an OOS waiver for in-state tuition?

I guess it depends on when u apply… because they didnt really give me much financial aide as a transfer… mostly loans and work study that I had to fight to get from them. If I get one more loan, which Im sure I will qualify for then I should be fully covered… and im living off campus so this isnt including a dorm or meal plan… but rent which comes out alot cheaper…and my family covers my books… because I never have enough aid to cover them.

The only out of state tuition waivers i know of come from honors college merit scholarships. These are not easy to get. If someone else knows of another way to get oos tuition waiver then please contribute

Q1. What makes a scholarship competitive and eligible for an out of state tuition waiver?

The scholarship must be available for Non-Resident and Residents students to apply to. The scholarship recipient(s) must also be selected by a university committee. The student must receive at least $1,000.00 in competitive scholarship awards in order to receive the waiver.

Obtained Departmental Scholarship of at least $1K thus eligible for OOS tuition waiver and pay State.

Thanks ucla. Forgot about the departmental ones.

Anyways, OP, it will depend on your stats whether you can get a oos tuition waiver.

With an EFC of 0, I would expect good aid, and at the very least, good loans… if loans can be called good…

At least they are more generous with the grants than UT Austin

Doesn’t Florida have some kind of guaranteed scholarship for Fl schools?

^ Yes (i.e. Palm Beach Atlantic, FL Atlantic), but it’s nothing special. Almost every state has one of those colleges. I’m thinking of majoring in PetE, and Florida doesn’t have any good PetE schools to my knowledge.

borkbork, how are your academics?

With an EFC of 0 (and being out-of-state; living on campus), how much would I receive from:

-FSEOG:
This definitely varies from school to school, even though it’s federal. How much does TAMU usually offer for this (min-max amount)

-Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG): [College For All Texans: Texas Public Educational Grant](http://www.collegefortexans.com/apps/financialaid/tofa2.cfm?ID=406)
What is the maximum TAMU would award for this? Is it really applicable to out-of-state students? A representative told me it wasn’t, but the website says it is.

-Pell Grant:
Do you get the full 5550 with an EFC of 0? Does it matter when you apply for it? Sorry I’m new at this.
