I was just wondering, say you don't graduate on time and you stay for an extra semester/year will you still be award financial aid?

good question. sorry i can’t help but i’ve wondered about this as well.

At many schools, as long as you are making satisfactory academic progress, you would be eligible for financial aid your 5th year. Some funding may be limited, especially if you are close to the maximum loan limits allowed per federal regulations. Your best course of action is to speak with the Financial Aid Office at your school so they can review your specific information and circumstances.

Depends on the college. In our state, the publics give finaid for a loooong time, as long as you take a minimum load. My two kids private schools: 1) 4 years only; 2) 4 years + 1 extra semester or summer. (Both colleges meet full need and cap student loans.)

You can receive federal Stafford loans up to the undergraduate aggregate limits (31,000 dependent and 57,500 independent). You can receive Pell, as well, if you qualify. Some schools may limit their campus-based federal funds for students who take extra semesters (FSEOG, FWS) - not all do this, though. Each school has its own policy for awarding institutional aid, so you’d need to ask your school.
