Does anyone know when they go out? Would be very helpful in my decision between UCI and CPP.

My son received an email tonight telling him that the awards were posted on BroncoDirect.

Estimated Financial Aid Budget: $23,805.00
Expected Family Contribution: $9,044.00
Estimated Need: $14,761.00
Total Aid: 9,900.00
Remaining Need: $4,861.00

Aid they awarded my son was $9900 ($9400 in loans).

Cal Poly Pomona Grant: $500.00
Perkins Loan: $3,900.00
Direct Loan Unsub - 1: $2,000.00
Direct Loan Sub - 1: $3,500.00

Aid Year Total: $9,900.00

I have no idea why the Pell Grant and Cal Grant A money is not listed?

FAFSA EFC is $4604, but CPP has determined a parent contribution is $9,044.

I thought Freshman could only take out $5,500 in loans?

Interesting…

I would assume that Cal Grant isn’t ready yet so this is just the preliminary? I’m just assuming.

Here’s my estimations since I don’t want to log back in.

Budget: $23,800
EFC: $700
Estimated Need: $23,000
Total Aid: $17,000 -----> SUG: $5500, Pell: $4500, unsub: 2000, sub: $5500
Remaining: ~$5500

@xxcapital Is your package for a transfer student? I think it looks pretty good if so.

S was offered university grants, Pell grant, Perkins, and sub direct loan from UCD, but not at CPP.
Does not make sense, but does not seem like I can actually shop the different offers around when they are so off.

@liveonboca Yes it is.

I don’t know how financial aid works at CPP; though I asked my boyfriend about state university grant vs cal grant and basically cal grants replace state university grant once it goes through… Or at least for his case since he’s a current student. It’s either or but we’ll see?

I have been reading some former posts from prior years, and it seems like this is normal for CPP. Evidently they like to change Fafsa EFC’s and make up their own amounts based on ? who knows!

I just got my award letter and it is terrible compared to UC Irvine’s award. My EFC is 600 (Mom makes less than 10,000 a year) and they gave me $10,000 (Pell grant + cal grant which seemed to be renamed to state university grant) and only $5000 in loans. Total cost of attendance is $23,000. They expect me to borrow $13,000 a year when only $3000 of that is subsidized???

UC Irvine gave me $22,000 in grants + $1500 workstudy + $5000 subsidized + $2000 unsubsidized

I guess Cal Poly made the choice easy for me, Irvine it is.

Does anyone know when they award the scholarships?
