Did anyone else’s S or D receive an email through their FSU account on Friday from the Office of Financial Aid with the subject line “Florida State University Financial Aid Award Notification”? We received one that directs us to the “My Finances” section in the FSU portal, but it is not easy to follow. Under our Financial Aid tab, it has a dollar amount under offered, but a lower amount under accepted. Also, under account balance it has an amount under Pending Financial Aid for both the Fall and Spring semesters. Not sure if this is an actual scholarship or somehow affiliated with our Pre-Paid plan. In his acceptance letter, there was not a link to a scholarship offer.
Under the left column, select Student Financials, Account History, Charges Due - Pending Financial Aid it should have a description of what is being included. (My DS has financial aid awards showing there that are clearly marked as grants) Looks like the amount offered and amount accepted are different for my son because I think they are including a student loan offered to all students, which will be up to you to accept or decline.
Is there an appeal process?
Yes, at most schools some financial aid is ‘auto’ accepted like Pell grants and school scholarships. Others like loans have to be accepted, so the amounts can be different. Also, BF amounts are usually listed as ‘pending’ and the schools give credit to them on the bill but don’t credit the funds until actually received which is after the semester begins.
@mcr976 you can call the Financial Aid office to inquire about an appeal to a financial aid award, if that is what you are asking
I followed the steps above, and under pending financial aid it just lists my S’s OOS waiver amount. There is no federal loan (sub or unsub) for the $5500 that I thought every student has an option to take. What am I missing?
