financial aid award summary is out

Even then you're up against thousands/millions of other students.

You can look for other scholarships, they don't have to be on fastweb or collegeboard, but it requires some searching and digging.

But like natsu said, there's always competition. I don't know why people say getting scholarships is so easy... at least it hasn't been for me.

Oh, and yeah, middle class is pretty much left in the dust. :(

Ya searching for scholarships is such a biotch. It has also been really hard for me to look for them. Writing essays is not the easiest thing. Sigh... I really wanna help my parents out and get some scholarships but it's really difficult to find easy ones that'll give u $$ b.c of the competition :(

Any internationals who got a scholarship or equivalent?

You may work on the UCI campus for 30 dollars an hour. HOWEVER, all that money goes towards paying off your debt.

I got:

Academic Competitiveness Grant for First Year $750.00
Cal Grant A $7,126.00
Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship $7,650.00
Federal Pell Grant $2,781.00
UC Irvine Grant $3,730.00

Is that good? I didn't know that it was 23k EACH YEAR! I thought it was only like 7k tuition and like 8k boarding. What's the cheapest boarding...aren't the theme halls only 4k per year?

hi for the cal A does it say unconfirmed for you guys.

Unconfirmed.

I'm in a predicament between UCI and CalArts. I ALSO on top of my aid get WAIVED/FREE tuition from VA (My dad is a disabled vet) so I'd be getting PAID 7k in my bank account to go to UCI every year. But on CalArts i'd be OWING 7k every year D:.

Is UCI that boring and unartsy/revolutionary of a school?

kaii: Go to CalArts!!!!! I wish I had a decision like that! Owing 7k a year is NOT bad for a great college education, and just think of all the connections you'll be making at CalArts!

<-- lives 1.5 miles from CalArts

Edward04, me too! Actually, about 5 miles driving distance.

Hehe cool adriennevy!

Hhmm...so what are you doing Friday night? /raises eyebrows up and down

lol jk. COC ftw, but I'm glad it's over in 7 weeks! :)

Haha Edward! Actually I'm flying to Seattle, sorrrryyyy! :)

Go Cougars! So are you headed to UCI this fall? I'm 95% sure that I am. Anything to get out of Valencia.

I'm still waiting to hear back from Cal and UCLA, but after weighing all my options, goals, and everything else, I think UCI might be it!

It's funny that you talk about getting out of Valencia since I always thought Irvine was so similar lol (two of the true master planned communities in the U.S). Both places are great overall, but sometimes you need a change of pace! :)

I'd love to go to UCLA as well but really don't think I'll get in this year (my major is only accepting "4 or 5" transfer students!)

I don't mind the whole planned community thing, but general attitude of a good portion of the people here really irks me. I grew up in the SFV so I can't stand the "richy" snobs and 17-year olds driving their brand new Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, etc. We will get fined by the housing community if we do certain things to our house because we have to keep up an image. So many of my co-workers are so sheltered that if they go to a concert in LA they fear for their lives because there's a homeless person hanging out at the bus stop (true story.) I'm hoping people in Irvine are a little more down to earth. I also hate that it's so far from my friends (like Irvine is any closer, ha!) Anyway, you get the idea.

i did'nt know there r people sooo "sheltered" like that
haha

Yeah, it makes me glad to be from a middle class family.
