Financial Aid Award

I was accepted ED to a college and applied for financial aid. I completed FAFSA with final tax numbers on January 11th. When can I expect to receive the actual FA award from the college?

I’m sure it depends on the institution, but my D was accepted last year ED and we received her financial aid package on March 10th.

Thanks. 10 char

Did you get accepted ED or EA? If you were accepted ED, then you should have gotten your FA package shortly after acceptance.

What school is this? Does it require CSS Profile as well?

Mom2collegekids, The way it worked for us was we heard on December 5th that she had been admitted early decision and then we completed the FAFSA in January, were verified and received the final package March 10th. I don’t see how they could award financial aid at acceptance for ED if you haven’t done the FAFSA. I know they did send a form that we could fill out (included in the acceptance package) and send back to them so that they could give us an estimated package, but we didn’t do that because she was attending one way or the other.

Applied ED and filled out the CSS profile at time of application. Gained admittance in December. Filled out FAFSA with reported 2010 tax numbers in January 2011. I was just curious as to when final FA package would be received. The CSS profile numbers were projected figures.

bibulous,

Did the school give you an estimated award at the time of acceptance? My daughter’s ED school sent an estimate in with her acceptance letter. We used estimated figures for the CSS profile in November and then had to complete the FAFSA in January and ALSO send actual figures for the CSS as soon as we had them. We won’t get the official award until around April 1st I believe.

Yes, I received an estimate. I did not know I was suppose to update CSS profile. When is the updated CSS profile due?

Check with your school. I believe the information we received just said as soon as possible. There wasn’t a set due date for anything other than a February 1st Priority deadline for FAFSA. It also said to send a copy of tax returns as well. Check with the school’s FA office though to see what they require. Or you can look back through the paperwork you received from the school and hopefully it would tell you. If your numbers are similar to your estimates then you should be fine. No worries :)

The CSS profile deadline for ED students was in November of 2010. I checked the website, no mention of update needed. My projected numbers were very close to actual numbers.
