wow efc is 30k.

gfg

wow efc is 30k.

gfg

@darksss yes and yes most likely.

i’m just wondering…did you guys do both cal grant and fafsa?

^ isn’t the cal grant verification form part of the fafsa application?

& the money you get is called the cal grant?

mmm not sure…i know fafsa is part of the whole cal grant process, but in order to be eligible for a cal grant your school must submit a verified gpa
i’m just wondering because i didn’t get that much aid, and i’m wondering if it’s because my school didn’t submit my verified gpa

my school sent in my gpa so i got the cal grant after applying for fafsa

anyone doing work study?

ugghhh why couldn’t my parents get divorced sooner!!
We only got 7788 worth of cal grants. =/
I have to pay 17k. x_x I need to get HELLA loans. not cooooollll at all…

^^^^7788 is the maximum Cal Grant A for a UC. What are u unhappy about?

I can get 6550 in unsubsidized loans, go me. -,-

ROFL I got 0$!!! Now i’m 2nd guessing if i can actually go now. Haaah. my parents aren’t going to help me (they want to retire early so i’m told)

^they give you one or the other the first year and if you still need more money they usually give you the money in a university grant. “UC Irvine Grant”
Idk why… but thats what the financial aid counselor at school said…
Yes we have a financial aid counselor at school lol

Here’s my package: 7788 cal grant A
3810 UCI grant

total gift aid= 11,598

13332 is the cost I need to come up with.

Is this good?

ALSO I have a another question. I notice for living expenses they through in transportation. The thing is I’m not going to bring a car so why are they throwing in about 1000 dollars (i’m assuming)? And how can they possibly charge me for personal costs? That something my family provides so why am I’m taking out a loan on these things?

oh crap so if you put down that you’re going to live off campus they’re going to force you to take a loan for that? or can you change your mind?

i havn’t gotten my aid yet btw

The cost of living is not going to be the same for everyone. If you wanted to you could probably get away with Tuition + Housing + Books. Everything else(even books) is really situational. So its really not going to cost you as much as they list to come here.

I believe they set the cost of attendance at the high end because some people will need to take out more loans than others.(though I know little about financial aid)

@brassring : Thats the only grant I got. I didn’t get any other type of grants as I was hoping for to make the price 15k or 14k. But 17k will have to do. Loans time! :)

ok I have a question. I got 16,780 in Grants which is awesome. If i take out the rest in loans and get some scholarships, could I give the scholarship money I got to pay off the loans early? or should I just not take the loans?

my gift aid = $333
does anyone else think this is a strange and useless gesture. Cause in the scheme of $25,000, $300 is SUPER helpful…
my EFC was 16,000 (which I think is excesssive) and they didn’t even come close to meeting the remainder. All i got was some bad loans.

^ lmaoo akclements, i got the exact same amount for my gift aid and the loans too
but my efc was a little bit higher then yours, about 18,000, which i don’t consider accurate at all…it doesn’t make any sense since i wouldn’t even consider myself that well off compared to some of the other people on this site that got better aid then me…

^^ oshoot

I know exactly how you feel. =/ I’m not well off either and I didn’t get any aid from UCI just the aid from fafsa. Looks like I gotta take out 17k worth of loans.

But yano, I think the pros outweigh the cons in going to UCI for me.

Would I rather go to a Community College spend 2k, not know how to live on my own, be miserable stuck at home while my parents divorce and feel like I wasted my time trying in HS?
Or spend 15k extra and attend somewhere 400miles away in an amazing location and have an amazing college experience/education.

To me, the choice is given, even if I have to take out hella loans.

yeah, I don’t consider myself well off either. 16,000-18,000 is lot to pay in a year for ANYONE, unless you’re a doctor making 300,000 + each year. But they left me with 24,000 to cover! lol
I’m going to eat that $333 in food for a month. ha ha ha
I have some great scholarship opportunities lined up though, so hopefully that will take the edge off…
