Financial Aid Awards---s'il te plait? :)

Please post your FA award? I'm just curious---not just for accepted students but any current students or alums too. Just want to see what kind of offers are going out and how they have changed as students progress through the years.

I realize this is a sensitive topic for some, but obviously, you aren't obligated to post. I'm not asking for your EFC or anything (not that it truly matters considering I know you all by a username...) just what you're being offered in loans/grants/whatever.

Thanks!

When I have it, I'll post it. Unless it's depressing.

**I included Federal Work-Study programs in the GRANTS category.

You got very lucky indeed, although you do have a 0 EFC, which is both a blessing and a curse.

I can only hope that since I'm a transfer, my grades count for something, But I doubt it.

Oh, I never posted my own:

Sigh... so far Bing is the only school that has met my full need... it's all in loans though. Geneseo and Syracuse left me a 10k and a 20k gap respectively and I'm still waiting on NEU (so far 15k/yr merit)

Bing:
Federal Direct Unsub Loan Offered $2,750.00/semester
Federal Direct Parent Loan Offered $6,840.00/semester

Total $19,180.00/yr

:( don't know what to do... still waiting on other schools, but still. And I hear SUNY tuition goes up soon. I know my parents can pay it---I just want to make it easier on them though... they're stressed enough.

Our EFC is 25k, but really all the money my parents make go to medical bills and other unfortunate aspects of our life.

My EFC is 6K, which seems low now. I thought it was high.

^^ my Bing was the same. Just received my info from Stony Brook and they offered me a $500.00 Scholastic Achievement Scholarship and a $3000.00 Presidential Scholarship...renewable for all 4 years. Now why couldn't Bing do that for me...UGH

I feel like Binghamton is the "NYU" of the SUNYs -- both in education AND financial aid. Perhaps after they factor in TAP, things will change?

thanks so much for posting that; really interesting. My D's EFC was higher, Stony Brook, Albany, New Paltz and Oneonta all graciously allowed us to take the entire approximately $19,000 COA out in loans. I'm not complaining; SUNY instate is a great bargain.

Ahaha yes, my parents make a good deal of money... :( it all gets spent though in medical bills for my dad, grandparents and my aunt. Not a healthy/lucky family.

I'm pretty sure we have like at most 1-2k$ in the bank (more in savings, but I don't want to have to delve into that, not that the stock market isn't killing it already, stupid mutual funds...) Also, no college fund was ever started for me and my mother can't stop shopping (parents just bought me a new sports car a while ago, to which I say, "Awesome. But seriously. Priorities?") Like I seriously look at them and wonder where the hell their sense of logic came from sometimes.

But I mean, they'll pay 50k a year for me to go to college though. They're very much... education-is-everything people... they came to America ~15 yrs. ago with $200 to pursue education, and they've done pretty well since then. I mean, when I first came here, I remember having close to nothing.

I feel like if I have kids, I'd save up all my money for their college education and pretend to be really, really poor so they'll learn to appreciate money and hard work and then BAM, they're 18 and mommy's a millionaire who can afford to send them to college ahahahhaha.

I was lucky enough to have an established college fund given to me by my grandparents. Since I went to community college for two years I saved so much as well. I hope I can do the same, and more, for my own kids or even grandkids.

markopolo, if you get the $750 ACG award for one college you should get it for all, correct? I thought the ACG award was not determined by individual school but by the federal gov't...

That's my understanding but I could be wrong. My son got the $750 ACG award from Clarkson, Union and RIT but it was NOT listed for BU. I called the FA office and the person I spoke to was kinda clueless.

Although it might be decided by the Federal Government, there is still a first-come, first-serve aspect to some of these grants. I don't think schools are given an unlimited supply of certain grants, such as the ACG award.

I found it odd how Binghamton seems to have "omitted" certain awards that other schools gave me ..

BU doesn't offer any merit aid at all to freshmen. I read that on their financial aid web page.

I got all loans, no scholarship, which honestly surprised me a little bit because I got an early write (early Feb) from Binghamton. I guess they don't want me that much after all... Well, it is better than no loans.

Regarding BU and merit scholarships I stand corrected, at Financial Aid: Scholarships it states:

Awarding of freshmen scholarships is based on the student’s academic profile submitted for admission and financial aid information derived from the FAFSA. No additional applications are required. The **majority of scholarships at Binghamton University are reserved for returning students **who have demonstrated their academic abilities at our University. As a highly selective school, all of our incoming students are ‘top of their class’ during high school, therefore donors prefer to wait to see how the student is able to perform while in a college-setting of their peers.

Here is my financial award sheet i've receieved today early in the morning. For that matter, i am an EOP student. Unfortunately, with all this precious aid,( a full ride essentially) i'm most likely going to Geneseo. However, I do feel very sorry and remorseful in a way to let a school like Binghamton go.
