I got mine in the mail today (Sent the FAFSA the first week of January).

OOS, nothing but loans and work study in addition to my faculty award.

Only filled 54% of my need, and 27% of that is in scholarships.

ow tat sucks, dont they do preferential packaging?

You mean like give you multiple packages and you pick? All I got was a letter stating my package: some loans, and some FWS. No preference.

preferential packaging is when they use a students stats, and other stuff do determine what aid package u get. **** if u got urs today i shud be expecting mine tomorow or friday god im scared..

a2wolves.. no need-based grants? it looks like i'm pretty screwed then. all i got was a one-time $2,000 transfer scholarship.. and i'm out of state -_-

No grants.

Same thing here with an EFC of 5600.No grants or anything. I'm calling them up.What is the point of FAFSA anyway when all you get is loans and work programs?

This is a rolling admission school......if they have outstanding offers to students find out what the declination deadline is. Perhaps they reallocate funds from kids who turn them down. This could work in your favor.

brucesprings, if your efc is 5600, i definitely won't be getting anything either..

i guess this scratches indiana off the list..

great this is such bull, i got nothin too... loans and work study man *** is goin on

It really ****es me off that they speak all this crap about how they want to attract the top notch out of state students, and go through all this hassle with a faculty award system, yet it's all meaningless with aid this bad. I could still go there if some outside scholarships come through or my parents decide to pay more, but it's very dissapointing. I'm going to appeal it because I think some other schools are going to come through with a nice package, but dang. I really hope I get into UM now, lol. Miami's aid doesn't look too bad right now, and a month ago I was almost insulted by their offer, lol.

dude ucla is giving me better aid!! man im worried i gues ima try to appeal or talk to them about my aid.

Dcho- It's easier to work with aid counselors about aid when you have a better offer from another school. If you go to them and tell them "Hey, look, this is my 1st choice school, I also got into UCLA and got better aid, give me more money (of course more formal than that)", and say that you'll attend if you fill your need, then they would likely give you more aid.

Is there a particular reason you're turning down UCLA for Indiana? Like does IU have a major you're interested in (Business I presume) than UCLA doesn't? Because UCLA is a friggen awesome school and you can do Econ there, save money, and get a MBA there.

business at IU is gud and tats my major and if i go to ucla yea ima do the biz econ program and in terms of prestige and job connections ucla might be more recognized but to me tats not the most important thing. i really like IU and prety much everything about it, social environment, culture, academics, campus etc. and if i go to ucla, academically and financialy probaly better but i know im gona regret not being able to go indiana.... yea ima call them up and talk and let em know about them being my first choice and sorta sliding in the fact tat if i dont get the aid i need, ill be "forced" to go to ucla lol

IU does not seem to generally be very generous to OOS students. My son's first package contained nothing but loans and work study, as well. He was able to get a small music merit scholarship (He calls it his pity grant.) when he told the professor he would be working with that he couldn't afford to come without some grant money.

Next year my son will be an RA in McNutt, and that will give him free room and board, along with $1200 for the year. That will definitely help.

well i just called and asked about my fincial aid award notice and asked if it was negotiable or if i still have options, i even mentioned my offer from ucla but sigh it didnt work. prety much i just gota wait to see how much money ima get from my selective scholarship application and if tats not enough then its over...

My son (OOS) got the $7500 a year merit award. He won't be attending, but I thought that was pretty good. D got the same academic merit award three years ago, and also a music school merit award. It wasn't big- I forget how much.

I wonder if the music merit awards will reflect any of that $40.6 million gift the school recently received from the Jacobs family??

i'm a transfer student with a 3.85 gpa and the best they could do was give me a one-time $2,000 scholarship for my first year at indiana..

I considered going to IU(Kelley), but the financial aid package ruled it out. I got a horrible package. That's with the faculty scholarship of 7000/year. My EFC wasn't even close to being met.
