To those who have been accepted to the Class of 2013, have you received your financial aid awards and were you happy with them? I keep hearing different things about Vassar's aid (some say it's good, some not so good) so if you don't mind, please respond.

Infinity, I was just accepted EDII a few days ago and the letter indicated that I will be informed of my financial aid package in approximately 1 week.

As soon as I know, I'll let you know how much I get.

Thank you!

i got mine yesterday .. it was mailed on the 27th. Its a big packet so might take a little bit of time to get there. I am REALLY happy with my financial aid offer. Vassars low income focus really helped... There is no loan in my package and less than 2.5grand out of pocket cost. And this includes everything from room and board to books to travel ... so i would imagine if u are in the low income range .. ie less than 60 grand.. u will be happy .. if not u will prolly still get preety good package

Just got my award and very happy with it!

Family Contribution:
Total: Around 11,000 (including the contribution from both me and my parents)
The total budget to attend, including all the extras, is around 52,000

So basically, year to year my family has to pay a little over 11 thousand. When I graduate, I'll have around 25-30 thousand in loans that I'll have to repay (thats including all four years). Not too bad at all. I'm an only child, my parents combined income is in the 70,000 to 80,000 range. It was in the 40,000 to 50,000 range but my dad got a new job just recently.

Note to Infinity: I messaged you details about my award

I am extremely happy.
Vassar was very generous.

irugee, how did you end up with 25,000 in loans? To my understanding, Vassar currently packages loans so that 4 year indebtness is 19,000?

Well, about 7 thousand of that was Fed. Work Study. So I would imagine I would be working that off as I go? Maybe I'm interpreting things wrong since I know the least bit about financials.

Heres how my award broke down
Vassar Scholarship: Around 35,500.00
Federal Perkins Loan: Around 1,000.00
Fed. Stafford Loan-Sub.: Around 2,500.00
Fed Work Study Allow: Around 1,750.00
Total award: Around 40,750.00

It would actually add up to 21,000 over 4 years if everything stayed consistent. But I'm expecting some fluctuation over the years.
