financial aid & channing-bowditch apartments

These are school-owned apartments, on the housing website it says it counts as off-campus housing for budget. I originally put on-campus on my fafsa because I wasn't sure where I was living yet when I did the application. How do I change this?

Second, the budget for off-campus only includes ~$7600 for housing. The monthly rent for the school apartments alone is $900+ (900 is the value for this year, it is likely to go up) so for the academic year, the budget will be at least $8100 (assuming 9 months/academic year). Will my budget be adjusted automatically for this since it's school-owned so they know how much I am paying for it? Or is there a form I can fill out to get more aid in grants, not loans? My EFC is very low and the Regents scholarship covers everything except my EFC.

I don’t know if you need to change it to on-campus, but I imagine the fin aid office would fix it themselves. As for the budget, I don’t think they’ll give you more money because you live in Channing-Bowditch.

They gave me an additional $1700 this year because I am living in the mini-suites, I was just wondering if they would do the same for apartments, especially since the rent students pay is so variable.

An additional $1700 beyond the normal student dorm budget? How did you get that?

I would like to know how you got extra money for the mini-suites, since I’m living there next semester…

The monthly rent allowance for off-campus financial aid is somewhere around $800 per month. If you can document that your share of rent is more than this – which is the case with the Channing-Bowditch apartments – they should be able to do an adjustment.

I think all you need to do as far as the financial aid “on campus” versus “off campus” goes is either resend your FAFSA or just go talk to the financial aid office.
