Financial Aid & Christians at NYU

NYU is my number one school. I am absolutely in love with the school & not because of the location (I live in NJ, & often go to NY anyway).

The two major problems I hear of when reseaching NYU is the lack of financial aid (most of the aid received is loans) and its intolerance towards Christians & their beliefs.

Can anyone comment on these two things? They both matter a lot to me especially the first.

financial aids is rough.

NYU is 1/3 jewish, and high in athiestic/agnostic and eastern religions...that is true. But there isn't "intolerance" at all, NYU is one of the most open environments to a plethera of idealogies. Just don't expect this school to be anywhere near ND or w/e in promoting christianity. You may also find alot of people critical to certain chistian beliefs such as homosexuaity being a sin, no birth control, no abortion...etc If you hold those beliefs, you'd be in the minority. Most people wont let those beliefs stop them from being your friend, but expect to see quite a few protests concernin those issues around compass. If your a progressive christian, then you wont even have to worry about that

I agree with mattistotle. The school promotes no religious ideologies. The school sponsors some clubs and groups that some fundamentalist Christians might find counter to their own beliefs. However, the philosophy among students (including me) seems to be, "Live and let live." If you, as a Christian, believe in witnessing to others by living your life in a Christian manner, then you'll do just fine here. :D However, if you attempt to belittle, disregard, or insult the choices that other people have made, then you'll find that you simply won't get along with a lot of people.

shades_children gives an excellent response. I've never heard of anyone at NYU being intolerant towards Christians. Where did you hear that? Live and let live, as long as you follow that and don't try to push your beliefs on anyone, or to judge anyone else, you'll be fine.

NYU actually promotes religious tolerance amongst all students from all religions...like the above have said, it will be hard to come to NYU with whatever your religion of choice may be and feel as though you are being treated unfairly or that others are intolerant towards you.
