Financial Aid Comparison Between Penn and other Ivies

My daughter is considering applying to Penn in the fall. Should she be lucky enough to get in, we're trying to figure out how to pay for it!

We have run the net calculators for several of the Ivies and the amount varies greatly. Has anyone been accepted to Penn and another Ivy and seen a significant difference in the award amount? Will Penn match another Ivy's award? Thanks.

^ Yes, according to what many accepted applicants have posted here in the past, Penn will match another Ivy’s award.

They will match and occasionally do better. I had a better package from Cornell and when I sent that in, they ended up matching and since there are no loans in the academic year financial aid (summer is different) it was really awesome for me.

If we do not qualify for financial aid, will Penn match Cornell’s merit award?

Penn does not give merit aid, only need based. It is my understanding that Penn is behind only Harvard, Yale, and Princeton in amount of aid for the Ivies.

I originally did not qualify but that changed once I sent in my financial package from Cornell.

Pretty sure that NONE of the Ivies–including Cornell–give merit aid (unless there’s something given by Cornell’s state-contract schools of which I’m not aware).

Cornell gave a “LWR grant” after determining that we needed no financial aid. He is a Cornell Tradition Fellow, maybe that played a role. Should we submit it to Penn?

^ Is that a Cornell grant? Or a grant from a third party? What does LWR stand for (please pardon my ignorance :o)?

Some Ivies state on their website that they will ‘reconsider’ FA if EFC is lower and you are offered more at another institution, need-based only. My D rec’d a letter from an Ivy that she was admitted to, that basically said - if you were offered more at another, call!

According to Cornell’s web site

We got some aid, but went ED. This did not allow us to compare as well as I liked.
