Financial aid complete?

I got the $5500 loan that everyone gets, plus a $4000 university scholarship. I havent gotten an email, so I guess my package is "not done." But since I already have 1 scholarship does that mean the scholarship part of my award is done and I can't get the Dean's Scholarship?

I got the same exact thing as you, which sucks because my EFC is still +$48k… people here are saying to wait it out, until at least the emails are sent. My gut feeling says that I won’t be getting anything else, which is really awful because I expected more.

But, until we are sure this is final, we should try to stay optimistic.

Crosses fingers

Is the $5,500 all unsubs? Or is there $3,500 subsidized + $2,000 unsubs?

If it is all unsubs, then that is probably the extent of your package. Your first $3,500 of need would be met with the subsidized Stafford, so if you only have unsubs your USC-determined need is 0.

itsMoo77, if your FAFSA EFCis $48,000 it is very likely that your family has additional assets not considered by the FAFSA - such as home equity - that have added to your expected contribution at USC. After applying the $5,500 Stafford, home equity of only $65,000, for example, would completely eliminate your need if your FAFSA EFC was $48,000.

It is important to remember that USC’s need-based financial aid is, in fact, need-based. That is not the case at all schools. At NYU, for example, packages vary depending on how much NYU would like you to attend and some low-income applicants get very little while others with a modest need receive impressive packages. USC, on the other hand, awards financial aid with the same calculations across the board, so those of you with relatively high incomes and significant assets will not see large need-based packages.

Good luck in the decision-making process.
