Financial Aid Covers Cost of Laptop

I recently learned that financial aid can cover the purchase of a laptop every 3 years or so. I'm wondering how this process works and if anyone has successfully gotten their laptop paid for through financial aid.

I have not heard that financial aid covers purchase of a laptop. However, I have heard that financial aid can be adjusted (mostly through loans) for the purchase of a desktop after you submit the receipt for purchase and other proof or whatever. There’s information on berkeley’s financial aid office on this.

However, financial aid can cover the cost of laptop if you budget accordingly. If you are receiving enough financial aid to cover your entire budget (approximately 25K), you can set aside 1K or so for the laptop and use the remaining money for your other necessities (laundry, groceries, food, etc.). Basically, the school uses your financial aid to cover all your school fees first (tuition, room&board, SHIP, etc.) and then gives you teh remaining money by check or deposit to your account for your books, transportation, food, etc. This is the money you can use to budget for a laptop. As far as I know, the school doesn’t give you any extra money for a laptop.

It doesn’t give you extra money, but you’re allowed to take a loan for your laptop.
