I'm a US citizen but I've been living abroad for quite sometime now, completed my B.A here, and now I want to come back and do my graduate studies. Considering I've never worked in the US, been away for so long and considered an independent student, is it possible? I know I'm eligible but really, what are my chances in getting financial aid? While filling the FAFSA application, I wrote down my uncle's phone number and address. I don't know if that's even legal or not. Would I get into any kind of trouble? I'm going to California and he's in New York so it won't be considered fraud, but would it still be a problem? I'm lost.

Need-based financial aid doesn’t exist for graduate school. There are loans and there are merit-based fellowships, stipends, and research/teaching assistantships.

It was perfectly OK to use your uncle’s US address and phone number for contact information when you filed the FAFSA. Don’t worry about that. When you are resettled in the US, you will be able to update all of your files and list the address where you are living then, and the phone number that you are using. Don’t worry about that.

BobWallace is correct. No need-based FA for grad school.

Have you apply to schools yet?
