Financial Aid CSS

<p>Basically I'm an English international student applying to Brown University. I'm attempting to complete my CSS Financial Aid Application, as well as my FAFSA Financial Aid application.</p>

<p>I've completed up to the section that asks for my Social Security Number, near the beginning. Except I'm english, and we don't have social security numbers.. we have national insurance numbers, which include alphabetical characters, whereas social security numbers do not - meaning I cannot use my national insurance number. </p>

Financial Aid
Brown meets full demonstrated need of all admitted students who have applied for financial aid. Financial aid for foreign citizens, however, is limited. If you wish to be considered for financial aid at any time during your four years at Brown, you should apply at the time of admission. All financial aid at Brown is awarded solely on the basis of financial need, which is determined annually by our analysis of applications submitted by students and their families.</p>

Financial aid covers books and some personal expenses, but does not cover vacation and summer expenses. All applicants should consult local education officials and make every effort to obtain outside sources of financial aid. <p>I think you will need to contact the school to get another number to use for identification.</p>

Are you temporarily in the United States to attend a college, language, vocational or nonacademic school with a nonimmigrant F-1, M-1 or J-1 student classification? Your school may ask you for your Social Security number. Some colleges and schools use Social Security numbers as student identification numbers. If you do not have a Social Security number, the college or school should be able to give you another identification number.</p>

<p>Social Security numbers generally are assigned to people who are authorized to work in the United States. Social Security numbers are used to report your wages to the government and to determine eligibility for Social Security benefits. Social Security will not assign you a number just to enroll in a college or school.

<p>I came across that earlier but I can’t find a contact detail suitable for contacting Brown about this? Any ideas?</p>

<p>Also, can I change my college options after registering for the CSS?</p>

<p>Look on the Brown website for financial aid…there will be an email there. </p>

<p>You can submit your CSS Profile to any number of schools at a later date.</p>

<p>If you are not an American citizen or permanent resident green card holder, you can NOT complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA is for the awarding of U.S. federally funded need based aid…you are not eligible for that as an international student.</p>

<p>Also, even IF you were eligible…the FAFSA for the 2012-2013 school year will NOT be available until January 1, 2012</p>
